# SHOW SCHEMAS

The `SHOW SCHEMAS` [statement](https://docs.cockroachlabs.com/docs/stable/sql-statements.md) lists all [schemas](https://docs.cockroachlabs.com/docs/stable/sql-name-resolution.md#naming-hierarchy) in a database.

## Required privileges

The `CONNECT` [privilege](https://docs.cockroachlabs.com/docs/stable/security-reference/authorization.md#managing-privileges) on the database is required to list the schemas in a database.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Description |
| - | - |
| `name` | The name of the database for which to show [schemas](https://docs.cockroachlabs.com/docs/stable/sql-name-resolution.md#naming-hierarchy). When omitted, the schemas in the [current database](https://docs.cockroachlabs.com/docs/stable/sql-name-resolution.md#current-database) are listed. |

## Example

#### Setup

To follow along, run [`cockroach demo`](https://docs.cockroachlabs.com/docs/stable/cockroach-demo) to start a temporary, in-memory cluster with the [`movr`](https://docs.cockroachlabs.com/docs/stable/movr) sample dataset preloaded:

```shell theme={"theme":{"light":"catppuccin-mocha","dark":"catppuccin-mocha"}}
$ cockroach demo
```

### Show schemas in the current database

```sql theme={"theme":{"light":"catppuccin-mocha","dark":"catppuccin-mocha"}}
> CREATE SCHEMA org_one;
```

```sql theme={"theme":{"light":"catppuccin-mocha","dark":"catppuccin-mocha"}}
> SHOW SCHEMAS;
```

```
     schema_name
----------------------
  crdb_internal
  information_schema
  org_one
  pg_catalog
  pg_extension
  public
(6 rows)
```
